A SHORT BIOGRAPHY (1776-1831)
Count Ioannis Capodistrias was the first governor of Greece, minister for foreign affairs of the Russian Empire and one of the most important European statesmen of the early 19th century.
CAPODISTRIAS IN CORFU
Ioannis Capodistrias spent most of his life in Corfu, from his birth in 1776 until 1808, apart from a three-year absence in Italy for studies (1794-1797). In 1808, when he was 32 years old, he left for Russia to begin his diplomatic career in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
